WOW, That’s what i’d call a detailed, step by step guide. I have one question though. When you promote your youtube video (aka building backlinks), have you noticed if it affects it’s rankings inside youtube? Of course if a video is displayed on google it certainly has more views and likes which can affect it’s rankings inside youtube search engine, but i’d like to know if simply by building links on it, i will see positive results inside youtube.

3) Youtube Description - When typing up your description for all of your Youtube videos you have a maximum of 5,000 words so use them effectively and pepper in your keyword in the description along with other related keywords to your Youtube video. For example read this entire description and you will see the "video optimization" strategy that I use to rank this video on the first page of Youtube.

Thank you for your advice. A lot of the content (although really good) was pretty similar to other blogs on the topic. However there was one new point for me that I think is really going to help. I love the idea of adding a link to our latest piano video in the signature of all our teams emails. I can modify all of the signatures every two days when a new video is released and this will put them in front of so many more people. Great idea!!
Interact with customers by responding to reviews that they leave about your business. Responding to reviews shows that you value your customers and the feedback that they leave about your business. High-quality, positive reviews from your customers will improve your business’s visibility and increase the likelihood that a potential customer will visit your location. Encourage customers to leave feedback by creating a link they can click to write reviews. Quick question though. What about a video that ranks quickly within 24 hours and it has no engagment no comments to views… yet because its key word optimized for youtube it ranks very high maybe among low competition keywords!! How could you go into a high competeion keyword and make a great video and have it move to page 1 in a week!! starting from ground zero no engament but great video and SEO.

i have never read an informative post until i came across this and am hooked. Helped me recognize broken links that i had no idea where sitting there. Also right in the beginning about having link worthy site, its like you were talking to me about writing see the link "here" and the LSI was a good tip i knew nothing about. Thank you so much and all the best.

It good to see someone out there is genuinely trying to help out others to achieve their dreams and goal. Me and my husband have recently started a youtube channel by the name of “foodeasywithsana”. It is a channel about cooking. It has been so hard to get subscribers and views. We are trying to engage audience on many different social networking platforms but the response is very slow. Please can you help us out here. We are lost rightnow.

I have to say, i had no idea it really made a difference to change the title of the video to a kw before uploading to YT I saw almost immediate results. Thanks for the reminder about PAD links to add to diversity… however with that said, after the nightmare that Hummingbird has turned into – do you think that these guidelines still hold up in todays serp??? Really looking forward to your response – I am in a battle with Youtube at the moment and have been experimenting with different strategies for 2 years now 😛

Hey Brian. From my experience embeds are just as important because in a way it’s a more powerful link. Most importantly home page contextual embeds on high pr related topics are key but extremely hard to get. I would say 1 of those embeds are worth 2 high pr links. Other than that Brian you’re right. Embeds are powerful because the user have to take time embed and share the video. Like for example Google search passive print system. My video is on the front page 0 backlinks. 10 pdf embeds that don’t show up in Ahrefs. Pretty stealth. But the Youtube button on each embed is a backlink that takes you back to YouTube. So if the site is relevant you technically don’t need backlinks for low competition keywordsuse my vvideo as a staple.
One thing I’ve been curious about from a video SEO standpoint is captions. Logic tells me that if you upload your own caption file to the video, YouTube would use that to discern what your video is about and use that info in how it ranks your video in the results. I’m running an experiment on one of my YouTube channels right now to see if they have any effect on views over time. We’ll see!
I am not even appearing in the SERP (Youtube) while searching for the title of the video. Another point is we have distributed the copyright of our video with other premium youtube channel and now they are appearing almost everywhere in the SERP (even when a user search for the title). They are also expending $90 on a daily basis to promote that video.
Build generic anchor text like watch this video with low pr backlinks and use the high pr backlinks for your main keywords and lsi keywords. Related keywords does wonders for videos. Keep your anchor text ratio at 10 main keywords, 50% url and 20-30 generic, click here, watch this video and so on. Build backlinks with Generic and url first everyday for 2 weeks and keep it consistent, then once you can find your video with serpfox.com then you start with your exact anchor matches and you continue to do generic and url backlinking. Don’t buy views unless you know your video won’t get deleted. I never buy views. Just vseo. Hope this helps.
So good advice but you forgot to mention the second most important part to getting your video watched. So youre a nobody and no one knows about you how will you ever rank? keywords and all you talked about arent going to do it so what do you do? as soon as you post your video buy likes comments views and subs to rank thats the secret sauce my friends that gives your video a jumpstart to get it to place on the first page
Great article about youtube videos, but I have a question. I see that you start link building within a few days. What types of links are you building to your site? I heard some people are even spamming links to youtube. I would think that even if google is ok with that now, in the future they might not like it at all and punish you badly. I know you aslo mentioned social signals, is that your only link building? Thanks

Hey Brian That was a great article ! I was always curious about Youtube SEO and its quite detailed I’ll try to write the main points in my notepad so I can remember this checklist when doing Youtube Seo 🙂 The tutorial is also quite helpful ! I agree with you on the queries google uses for showing video results, that makes sense now why google shows videos on “How to” queries.
Anyway… I’ve been pulling out all the stop to get my Youtube videos ranked, but NOTHING is working. I have just realised though that all of my purchased, drip-fed, high-retention views are from mobile devices. Is this why I’m nowhere to be seen on Google’s SERPs? Also, do you have an e-mail address I could contact you at? I don’t want to take over your comments section single-handedly lol.

If you find any broken links on topically related websites, you can immediately contact the website owner and inform him about it. Since you will do him a favor by pointing out a broken link, you can also kindly request a replacement with a link to your relevant resource. Of course, the replacement – your article – must be informative and useful for their audience.
